Singapore visa sponsorship jobs in 2026 require a real job offer and an application by the Singapore employer or its appointed employment agent. Professional roles normally use the Employment Pass (EP), associate professional and technician roles may use the S Pass, and specified semi-skilled work can use a sector-restricted Work Permit. Each route has different salary, employer, quota and worker-protection rules.
“Sponsorship available” does not mean approval is automatic. The employer must choose the correct pass, satisfy Ministry of Manpower (MOM) requirements and complete issuance after approval. Applicants should evaluate the job, employer and pass route before paying relocation costs or sharing sensitive documents.
Choose the correct Singapore work pass
| Route | Designed for | Main eligibility test | Employer constraint |
|---|---|---|---|
| Employment Pass | Foreign professionals, managers and executives | Age-adjusted qualifying salary plus COMPASS unless exempt | Employer or appointed agent applies; fair-hiring rules normally apply |
| S Pass | Skilled associate professionals and technicians | Age-adjusted qualifying salary | Employer quota and monthly levy apply |
| Work Permit | Semi-skilled migrant workers in approved sectors | Sector, occupation, nationality/source and employer requirements | Quota, levy, insurance, security bond and sector duties can apply |
The job title alone does not determine the pass. MOM examines the candidate, duties, salary and employer. A company cannot avoid EP standards by calling a professional role an S Pass job, and a general office vacancy cannot use a Work Permit merely because its salary is lower.
Salary thresholds in late 2026 and from January 2027
| Pass and sector | Current floor in late 2026 | New applications from 1 January 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| EP, all sectors except financial services | S$5,600 | S$6,000 |
| EP, financial services | S$6,200 | S$6,600 |
| S Pass, all sectors except financial services | S$3,300 | S$3,600 |
| S Pass, financial services | S$3,800 | S$4,000 |
These figures are starting points for candidates aged 23 or below, not universal qualifying salaries. MOM increases the required salary progressively with age. In late 2026, the general EP threshold reaches S$10,700 at age 45 and above, while the general S Pass threshold reaches S$4,800. The corresponding new-application amounts from January 2027 reach S$11,500 and S$5,100. Financial-services figures are higher.
The new thresholds apply to new applications from 1 January 2027 and renewals of passes expiring from 1 January 2028. Applicants should use MOM’s Self-Assessment Tool with their exact age, sector, salary and employer information. A recruiter quoting only the lowest floor may be hiding that the candidate does not qualify.
Employment Pass: the two-stage test
An EP candidate first needs the applicable qualifying salary. Meeting that floor does not guarantee approval. Unless an exemption applies, the application must then score at least 40 points under the Complementarity Assessment Framework, known as COMPASS.
COMPASS combines candidate and firm attributes. Its foundational criteria assess salary relative to local professionals in the sector, qualifications, nationality diversity within the employer’s professional workforce and the employer’s support for local employment. Bonus criteria can recognise skills in shortage and strategic economic priorities.
The qualifying-salary gate and COMPASS salary points are different. A candidate can clear the minimum EP salary but earn no COMPASS salary points if the offered pay is below the relevant sector benchmark. Conversely, COMPASS points cannot rescue an application that fails the initial qualifying salary.
COMPASS qualifications and exemptions
Degree-equivalent qualifications can contribute points, with higher points for MOM-recognised top-tier or specialised institutions. A candidate without a degree-equivalent qualification can still pass if enough points come from other criteria. Never buy a qualification-verification report from an unknown recruiter; use the evidence and verification channel requested in the employer’s genuine application.
Current official exemptions from COMPASS include candidates earning at least S$22,500 in fixed monthly salary, qualifying overseas intra-corporate transferees and roles lasting one month or less. Exemption from COMPASS is not exemption from every immigration or employment requirement.
Fair Consideration Framework advertising
Before most EP and S Pass applications, the employer must advertise the vacancy on MyCareersFuture for at least 14 consecutive days and consider applicants fairly. The employer should not make an offer during that mandatory advertising period. The advert’s employer, occupation, salary and vacancy count must align with the later pass application.
Advertising exemptions can apply, including where the company has fewer than 10 employees, the fixed monthly salary is at least S$22,500, the role lasts no more than one month or an eligible local or overseas intra-corporate transfer is involved. Fair hiring expectations still apply. A foreign candidate seeing a MyCareersFuture advert should not assume it is a guaranteed sponsored vacancy; the employer must complete its consideration process.
S Pass rules in 2026
The S Pass is for skilled workers across nationalities who have a Singapore job offer and meet the age-adjusted salary requirement. It is not a general low-wage visa. The employer or appointed employment agent applies and should use MOM’s Self-Assessment Tool before filing.
Unlike the EP, S Pass hiring is constrained by the employer’s available quota. The S Pass sub-quota is capped at 10% of total workforce in services and 15% in construction, manufacturing, marine shipyard and process. A candidate may meet salary requirements yet remain unhireable because the company has no quota.
Employers also pay the S Pass levy. Since 1 September 2025 the monthly rate has been harmonised at S$650 across sectors and levy tiers. The levy is an employer liability. Treat any demand that the worker pay the employer’s levy as a warning requiring clarification and official advice.
Work Permit jobs are sector and source restricted
The migrant-worker Work Permit covers semi-skilled work only in approved sectors and for workers from permitted source countries or regions. MOM publishes separate rules for construction, manufacturing, marine shipyard, process and services. The applicable source list, occupation restrictions, quota and levy can differ by sector.
Employers may need medical insurance, a security bond, approved accommodation, medical examinations, safety courses or other sector-specific controls. A recruiter cannot lawfully turn an ineligible nationality or occupation into a Work Permit case by charging a “special processing” fee.
Non-Malaysian workers generally cannot be in Singapore while the employer submits a new Work Permit application. For most online cases, MOM states a processing time within one week, but additional checks can take longer. Processing estimates are not approval guarantees.
Offer, application, IPA and pass issuance are different
- Job offer: the employer provides a genuine role, salary and terms.
- Employer application: the employer or appointed employment agent submits the relevant pass application with the candidate’s written consent.
- Assessment: MOM evaluates candidate and employer eligibility, including salary, COMPASS, quota or sector rules.
- In-principle approval: an approved case produces an IPA stating entry and pre-issuance requirements.
- Arrival and compliance: required medical, insurance, address or other conditions are completed.
- Pass issuance: the employer or agent gets the pass issued and receives a notification letter.
- Digital pass and card: the worker completes registration where required and uses SGWorkPass or the physical card.
For an S Pass, the IPA generally gives the candidate 60 days to enter Singapore and have the pass issued. The notification letter issued afterward allows work while the card is being prepared. An IPA is therefore not the final work pass, and an application receipt is not permission to work.
Documents and truthful applications
Records can include the passport, CV, educational certificates, qualification verification, references, employment contract, detailed duties and employer documents. Regulated professions may require registration or licensing beyond the work pass. Names, employment dates, qualifications and salary must be consistent.
The employer needs the candidate’s written consent to apply. Applicants should retain the advert, signed offer, consent, application reference, IPA and final notification letter. Never permit an agent to invent experience, inflate salary on paper or use a different job description for MOM.
Salary, deductions and employment terms
Ask for fixed monthly salary, variable pay, working hours, overtime, probation, leave, notice, medical coverage, relocation support and lawful deductions in writing. Immigration qualifying salary and take-home pay are not the same calculation. Housing, transport and everyday costs can materially change whether an offer is workable.
A promised allowance may not count in the same way as fixed monthly salary for pass eligibility. The employer should enter accurate remuneration in the application. If the contract and IPA show different pay, stop and obtain an explanation before travelling.
Changing employers
EP and S Pass holders do not carry unrestricted sponsorship between companies. A new employer must apply for a new pass. S Pass candidates also depend on the new employer’s quota. Work Permit transfers follow route and sector rules; workers should not start at a second company based on an informal promise.
Check current pass validity before resigning and understand cancellation, notice and lawful stay arrangements. MOM’s online work-pass status service and SGWorkPass provide authoritative status information.
Family eligibility is not automatic
Eligible EP or S Pass holders may support certain family applications only when the current requirements, including the applicable salary threshold and relationship evidence, are met. A work pass approval does not automatically approve a spouse or child. Work Permit holders have different restrictions and should not rely on an agent’s family-relocation promise.
Budget for separate application, issuance, housing, healthcare and schooling costs. Confirm eligibility on MOM’s current dependant pages after the main pass is approved rather than treating a recruiter statement as a decision.
Where employer-backed hiring is realistic
EP opportunities are most plausible in areas where employers need demonstrable professional expertise, such as software, cybersecurity, data, semiconductors, engineering, finance, biotech, logistics planning, regional sales and specialist management. Eligibility still depends on the individual salary and COMPASS profile.
S Pass demand can include experienced technicians, supervisors, chefs, engineering support and other associate professional roles, but quota makes company capacity decisive. Work Permit demand is tied to approved sector and source rules rather than a generic “unskilled jobs in Singapore” category.
Applicants comparing Asian destinations can read TrendyAcads’ Japan CoE and SSW guide and South Korea visa sponsorship guide. Compare the actual route, language expectations, worker protections and costs instead of choosing by headline salary.
How to verify a Singapore offer
| Check | Credible evidence | Warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Employer | Registered business identity, company domain, real interview and named staff | Messaging-only contact or copied website |
| Pass route | EP, S Pass or Work Permit stated with a defensible eligibility explanation | “Open work visa” sold without a job |
| Application | Employer or appointed employment agent files with consent | Applicant told to self-file through an unofficial portal |
| IPA | Details match passport, employer, occupation and salary | Edited PDF or fee demanded to “activate” approval |
| Status | Verified through MOM status service or SGWorkPass | Recruiter refuses independent verification |
| Payment | Documented lawful fee to a verified organization | Crypto, gift card or unrelated personal account |
Common Singapore sponsorship scams
- A guaranteed EP without checking age-adjusted salary or COMPASS.
- An S Pass offer from a company with no available quota.
- A Work Permit for a nationality, occupation or sector that is not eligible.
- A fake IPA carrying a copied MOM logo.
- A demand for payment to release, activate or upgrade an approved pass.
- A tourist entry presented as permission to begin employment.
- A contract showing a lower salary than the work-pass application.
- A recruiter asking for bank credentials, one-time passwords or remote-device access.
MOM states that its officers will not ask people to transfer money or reveal bank login details over a phone call or email. Applicants can check recent application status using date of birth and passport number through the official MOM service, and verify issued passes through SGWorkPass.
A practical application strategy
Start by calculating the correct pass threshold for your age and sector. For EP roles, ask the employer whether it has run the Self-Assessment Tool and how the case reaches 40 COMPASS points. For S Pass roles, ask whether there is current quota and whether the advertised fixed salary meets your age-adjusted threshold. For Work Permits, verify sector and source-country eligibility on MOM’s sector page.
Target employers that genuinely need your experience. Tailor the CV with measurable results, tools, licences and sector knowledge. Confirm who is filing, obtain the application reference, check the IPA independently and travel only when the official sequence permits it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I apply for an Employment Pass myself?
No. The Singapore employer or its appointed employment agent applies on behalf of the candidate. An overseas company without a Singapore-registered office needs the appropriate local sponsorship arrangement.
Is S$5,600 enough for every EP applicant in 2026?
No. That is the starting floor outside financial services for the youngest band. The required salary rises with age, financial services has a higher floor, and most cases must also pass COMPASS.
What changes on 1 January 2027?
For new applications, the general EP starting floor rises from S$5,600 to S$6,000 and the general S Pass floor rises from S$3,300 to S$3,600. Higher age-adjusted and financial-services figures apply.
Does an S Pass depend only on my salary?
No. The candidate must qualify, but the employer must also have S Pass quota and pay the levy. Fair Consideration Framework advertising normally applies before filing.
Can I work as soon as I receive an IPA?
Not simply because the IPA exists. Entry and pass-issuance requirements must be completed. The post-issuance notification letter states when work may begin while the card is prepared.
How can I verify an application or pass?
Use MOM’s official “Check work pass and application status” service. Issued pass validity can also be checked with SGWorkPass. Do not rely solely on a recruiter screenshot.
Final assessment
Singapore sponsorship is a structured employer-led process, not a visa product sold independently of a job. Strong candidates match the role to the correct pass, meet the age-adjusted salary, account for COMPASS or employer quota, and verify every approval through MOM.
