Tuvalu visa sponsorship jobs in 2026 generally require the foreign worker to obtain a Permit to Enter and Reside for employment, supported by the employer sponsorship in Form 5. This is the correct long-stay employment route under Tuvalu’s Immigration Act and Regulations; it should not be confused with an ordinary visitor permit or an invented “open work visa.”
The Principal Immigration Officer may attach conditions covering the occupation, employer, security or bond and other matters. If the sponsored job ends or the worker changes employment without authorization, the permit may be cancelled.

What is the Permit to Enter and Reside?
Section 8 of Tuvalu’s Immigration Act allows the Principal Immigration Officer to issue a permit authorizing a person to enter and reside in Tuvalu. The permit can contain conditions about security, the profession or occupation the holder may follow, the employer or employers for whom the person may work and other relevant matters.
The Regulations identify employment as one of the purposes for which this permit may be issued. The permit can be granted for a maximum stay of one year and can be extended through the prescribed process.
Grant remains discretionary. A job offer, fee payment or submitted sponsorship form does not create an entitlement to approval.
The employer sponsorship requirement
An employment application must include an employer sponsorship using Form 5 in Schedule 2 of the Immigration Regulations. The form connects the named worker to the employer and the proposed job.
The applicant should verify the employer’s legal identity, physical operation, contact details, person signing the sponsorship and authority to hire. For a project role, confirm the client, funding, location and expected duration.
A recruiter cannot replace the prescribed sponsorship with a social-media message or a generic “invitation letter.” Request a copy of every employer document submitted and confirm it matches the signed contract.
Employment contract and job details
The contract should define the job that supports the permit. It should state the legal employer, job title, duties, work location, supervisor, start and end dates, salary, currency, payment schedule, hours, overtime, leave, deductions, accommodation, transport, healthcare, termination and return-travel arrangements.
Because Tuvalu’s permit can restrict the occupation and employer, vague language is risky. “General worker” should not hide duties in several unrelated businesses, and a technical role should identify the actual technical responsibilities.
Do not accept a second contract with lower pay after approval. Any agreed housing or food support should be written with its real cash value, conditions and end date.
Form 3 and the general application evidence
The Permit to Enter and Reside application is made in Form 3. It must be completed in English or Tuvaluan and signed by the applicant, or by a parent or guardian for an applicant under 18.
The application is given to an immigration officer with the passport or certificate of identity, two passport-sized photographs, the prescribed fee and information showing that the applicant fits the employment purpose.
Immigration can request further information. Keep certified, legible records and use consistent names, dates, employer details and duties across the application, sponsorship, contract and qualifications.
Financial capacity or resident sponsorship
The general application requires evidence of financial capacity or a Permit to Enter and Reside Sponsorship form from a resident sponsor using Form 6. This is separate from the employer sponsorship in Form 5.
Applicants should not assume one form automatically replaces the other. Form 5 supports the employment relationship; financial evidence or Form 6 addresses lawful support during residence.
Clarify who pays for housing, food, domestic transport, medical care and departure. Keep authentic bank or salary evidence and never create temporary balances solely for the application.
Outward ticket or repatriation bond
A permit is granted only when the applicant has a valid outward-bound ticket or has paid a bond in the amount required by the Principal Immigration Officer to cover repatriation to the country of citizenship.
Before buying a non-refundable ticket, confirm timing and acceptable evidence. If a bond is required, obtain the official assessment, payment route, receipt and written information on release or forfeiture.
A recruiter asking for a “repatriation deposit” in a personal account is not equivalent to an official immigration bond.
Health, character and longer intended residence
The applicant must satisfy Immigration as to good health and character. If the intended residence is longer than one year, the Regulations additionally require a medical examination using Form 7, a radiological examination using Form 8 and police reports.
The police reports are required from every jurisdiction where the applicant has lived for more than one year during the preceding five-year period. Follow the current instructions on issue dates, certification and submission.
Even for a shorter first permit, Immigration can request information needed to assess eligibility. Do not conceal a material medical or character matter; explain it truthfully with supporting records.
Application fees
The current revised Regulations list different employment-permit fees depending on where the application is lodged. For an application outside Tuvalu, the listed fee is $600 for the principal applicant and $150 for each dependent.
For an application lodged inside Tuvalu, the listed fee is $1,200 for the principal applicant and $300 for each dependent. Tuvalu uses the Australian dollar.
Fees and payment methods can change. Confirm the current assessment directly with Immigration before paying, use only official instructions and retain the receipt. Do not send government fees through a recruiter without independent verification.
Why applying from outside is usually safer
The Regulations contemplate applications inside and outside Tuvalu, but this does not make visitor-first travel a reliable migration strategy. An in-country employment application costs more under the current fee schedule and remains discretionary.
A person who arrives without the approved long-stay employment permit may need to leave if the application is not decided or approved before visitor status ends. Travel should therefore be planned around written immigration permission, not an agent’s assurance.
Do not begin productive work merely because Form 3 or Form 5 has been lodged.
Visitor permits and the special endorsement
An ordinary visitor permit allows a maximum initial stay of 30 days and normally prohibits employment, business, study and proselytising.
The Principal Immigration Officer has discretion to issue a visitor permit with a special endorsement for a person intending to engage in business or employment for a maximum of 30 days, subject to conditions and an additional fee. The Regulations also allow a work/business endorsement when extending a visitor permit.
This narrow short-stay mechanism is not the standard solution for a continuing sponsored job. Obtain written confirmation of the endorsement before performing any work and do not treat it as a promise of a Permit to Enter and Reside.
Employer and occupation conditions
The Immigration Act permits conditions specifying the profession or occupation and employer or employers. Read the final permit rather than relying on the contract alone.
A worker approved for one school, clinic, contractor or organization should not take a second job or switch duties without written clearance. A promotion can also matter when it changes the substantive occupation.
Keep the permit, sponsorship and daily work aligned. Ask Immigration before accepting any transfer, reassignment or outside paid activity.
What happens when employment ends?
The Minister may cancel an employment-based Permit to Enter and Reside when the employment has ceased or the person has changed employment. Cancellation is also possible for unauthorized work, breach of conditions or circumstances no longer matching the basis of grant.
Do not assume that the printed permit expiry date protects status after termination. Notify Immigration, obtain written instructions and clarify the deadline for departure or a lawful new application.
A new employer should complete its own sponsorship and contract process. The old sponsor cannot transfer the permit privately.
Other cancellation grounds
A permit may be cancelled for false, misleading or incomplete application information, unauthorized employment, breach of conditions, conduct inconsistent with the stated purpose or conduct detrimental to Tuvalu’s peace, order, good governance or wellbeing.
Insufficient lawful means to support the holder or dependants is another ground. This makes salary payment and financial records practically important after approval, not only at application.
Certain serious convictions can cause cancellation under the Regulations. A formal cancellation notice is to be served in Tuvaluan or English and state the legal provision used.
Extension limits
An application to extend a Permit to Enter and Reside is made using Form 4. Extension is discretionary and should be started before the existing permit expires.
The Regulations normally prevent a permit from being extended more than three times in any five-year period. A further extension requires the Minister, acting on advice from the Citizenship Committee, to certify that it is in the national interest.
Repeated employment does not guarantee repeated extensions. Keep current passport, contract, sponsor, finances, health, character and immigration-compliance evidence.
Government employees
The Immigration Act includes certain persons employed by or on behalf of the Government, and their families, among categories that may enter without a permit. This is a status-based legal provision, not a general exemption for anyone claiming to have a public-sector contact.
The worker and hiring body should obtain written confirmation that the specific employment and family members fall within the exemption. When the qualifying employment or status ends, the person’s immigration position changes and a permit may become necessary.
A contractor, consultant, NGO worker or supplier should not assume that doing work connected with government makes the person a government employee for this purpose.
Dependants
Each dependent should be disclosed and supported with identity and relationship evidence. Current employment-permit fees separately price each dependent according to whether the application is lodged outside or inside Tuvalu.
The family’s lawful support, accommodation, outward travel and health needs should be planned. The principal worker’s employment ending can affect the factual basis for the family’s stay.
Do not assume a dependent has permission to work. A family member with a job offer should obtain the applicable employment sponsorship and written immigration authority.
Worker safeguards and practical planning
Keep copies of the passport, permit, contract, sponsorship forms, fee receipt, payslips, time records and deductions. Share essential documents and employer contacts with a trusted person.
Verify accommodation, electricity, water, food, communications, transport and medical arrangements for the actual island. A salary that appears attractive abroad can be inadequate when key services or imported goods cost more than expected.
Do not permit indefinite passport retention. If an original is required for a filing, obtain a receipt, submission copy and expected return date.
Where sponsorship may be realistic
Credible overseas hiring is most likely where a named employer has a specific need that cannot readily be met locally. Depending on actual vacancies, this may include healthcare, specialist education, utilities, renewable energy, engineering, construction supervision, maritime operations, aviation, telecommunications, information technology, finance and development projects.
This is not a list of guaranteed jobs. Tuvalu has a very small labour market, so adverts claiming hundreds of no-experience warehouse, packing or hotel vacancies should be examined closely.

Common Tuvalu sponsorship scams
- A fake resort, construction project, NGO or government contract.
- An ordinary visitor permit marketed as a one-year work visa.
- A forged Form 5 employer sponsorship.
- A claimed open permit for any employer or occupation.
- An invented repatriation bond paid to a personal account.
- A false guarantee that an in-country application will be approved.
- A job that continues under the old permit after an employer change.
- A request for false bank, qualification, medical or police records.
A safer application sequence
Verify the employer, vacancy and contract. Obtain the properly completed Form 5 sponsorship and determine whether financial evidence or resident sponsorship Form 6 will be used.
Prepare Form 3, passport, photographs, fee and purpose evidence. Complete any applicable medical, radiological and police requirements and confirm the outward-ticket or official bond arrangement.
Wait for the written permit and read every condition before travel or work. Remain with the approved employer and occupation, apply early for an extension and contact Immigration before any employment change.
Frequently asked questions
What is Tuvalu’s long-term work visa called?
The relevant status is a Permit to Enter and Reside for employment under the Immigration Act and Regulations.
Does the employer need a sponsorship form?
Yes. An employment application must include employer sponsorship in prescribed Form 5.
How long can the permit last?
It can be granted for a maximum stay of one year and may be extended subject to the rules and discretion.
Can I change employers?
Not safely without prior immigration approval. A change or cessation of employment is a stated ground for cancellation.

Final assessment
A genuine Tuvalu sponsorship case has a verifiable employer, a detailed contract, Form 5 employer sponsorship, a complete Form 3 permit application, lawful support and a credible repatriation arrangement. The worker must then stay within the approved employer and occupation conditions.
