Thailand visa sponsorship jobs in 2026 normally require two separate permissions: the correct immigration status, usually a Non-Immigrant B visa, and a work permit for the approved employer and occupation. An employer often obtains a Ministry of Labour approval such as WP3 before the applicant applies for the visa. The Non-B visa allows entry for employment purposes, but it is not by itself permission to start work.
BOI-promoted companies and qualifying Long-Term Resident highly skilled professionals use specialised processes. Applicants should identify the route, verify the employer and check that the occupation is legally open to foreigners before accepting.
Choose the correct Thailand route
| Route | Designed for | Work authorization | Key distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ordinary Non-B plus work permit | Foreign professionals employed by qualifying Thai entities | Employer-supported Department of Employment permit | Visa and work permit are separate |
| BOI expert route | Skilled technicians and experts in BOI-promoted projects | BOI position approval plus work-permit process | Single Window and promoted-company requirements |
| LTR Highly Skilled Professional | High-potential specialists in targeted industries or institutions | LTR work permission after visa issuance | Income, expertise, employer and insurance tests |
| LTR Work-from-Thailand Professional | Remote employees of qualifying foreign companies | No ordinary Thai work permit for the foreign-employer remote activity | Does not authorize normal employment by a Thai company |
| MOU migrant-worker route | Eligible workers from participating neighbouring countries | Separate government-to-government process | Not the ordinary expatriate Non-B route |
The ordinary employment sequence
- The Thai employer confirms eligibility. It checks company, capital, staffing, tax, social-security and occupation requirements.
- The employer obtains pre-approval. A Ministry of Labour approval letter or WP3 is commonly used for the overseas Non-B application.
- The applicant applies for the Non-B visa. The responsible Thai mission or e-Visa system checks the employer and applicant documents.
- The applicant enters Thailand. A single-entry Non-B commonly gives an initial stay of up to 90 days.
- The work permit is issued. The employer and worker complete Department of Employment requirements.
- The stay is extended where eligible. Immigration can extend the permitted stay based on the approved employment.
- Re-entry is protected. A re-entry permit may be necessary before travel to preserve the existing stay permission.
Consular checklists vary by location. Common supporting evidence includes the WP3 or Labour approval, employer letter, company registration, shareholder list, financial statements, tax registration, contract, qualifications and previous Thai work permit where applicable.
Non-B visa is not the work permit
Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that a person holding a Non-Immigrant visa may work once a work permit has been granted. Starting work as soon as the passport receives a Non-B stamp can therefore be unlawful if the permit is not yet approved.
Tourist and transit status are not normal employment routes. An employer promising to “change it later” should obtain a lawful written solution before the candidate travels or performs any duties.
The e-WorkPermit system in 2026
The Department of Employment launched the nationwide e-WorkPermit service on 13 October 2025. The system supports electronic application, status checking, approval and permit-service steps. It includes applications for temporarily admitted Non-Immigrant foreign nationals performing skilled work.
Applicants should use the official eworkpermit.doe.go.th domain. A recruiter login page or payment portal on another domain is not proof of a government application. The employer should provide the genuine reference and approval status.
Employer eligibility and staffing rules
Ordinary sponsoring companies can face registered-capital, Thai-employee, tax, social-security and operational requirements. Frequently quoted capital and staffing ratios can vary by company type, nationality treaty, marriage status, location and approving route, so they should not be treated as universal.
Ask the employer whether the position and company were checked by an experienced authorized professional or the Department of Employment. A newly created shell company with no office, payroll or Thai staff is a serious warning sign.
BOI-promoted companies
The Board of Investment can approve foreign skilled technicians and experts for positions needed by a promoted project. The company uses the BOI Single Window for visa and work-permit services. The foreign expert must hold the correct Non-B status and have qualifications and experience aligned with the approved position.
BOI promotion belongs to the company and project; it is not a personal visa available through any employer. The company first secures approval for the foreign position, then seeks approval to place the named expert in it. After approval, the expert completes work-permit and immigration steps.
Applicants should request the company’s BOI promotion identity, the approved position and the Single Window reference. A business displaying a BOI logo on its website may not have authorization for the particular job.
LTR Highly Skilled Professionals
Thailand’s LTR Highly Skilled Professional category supports experts working for targeted-industry businesses, higher-education institutions, research or specialised training institutions, Thai government agencies, or people with recognised targeted expertise.
The ordinary income route requires average personal income of at least US$80,000 per year during the previous two years. Applicants earning at least US$40,000 but below US$80,000 can qualify with additional evidence such as a relevant master’s degree in science or technology. Thai government-agency workers can be exempt from the income minimum under current guidance.
Applicants also meet health-insurance, Thai social-security or bank-deposit requirements. Qualification endorsement is not the final work permit. After LTR visa issuance, holders working for an entity in Thailand apply for work permission through the LTR system before the employment begins, subject to the stated temporary processing concession.
Work-from-Thailand is not Thai sponsorship
The Work-from-Thailand LTR category is for remote workers employed by qualifying overseas companies. Official BOI guidance says these holders do not receive a work permit for that foreign-employer remote activity because they do not have a Thai employer.
A holder cannot assume the category permits paid work for a Thai business. Thai employment requires separate authorization and can affect LTR status. Remote-worker marketing should not be confused with a sponsored vacancy in Thailand.
Prohibited and restricted occupations
Thailand reserves numerous occupations for Thai nationals or permits them only under conditions. Official lists include areas such as shop attendance, tour guiding, clerical or secretarial work, hairdressing, street vending, certain brokerage, legal services, traditional handicrafts and specified construction, driving, accounting, engineering and architectural activities.
Some work is allowed only where an international agreement, professional licence, specialised expertise or MOU worker arrangement applies. A foreign job title does not override the actual duties. For example, calling someone a “customer experience executive” does not necessarily legalize shop-counter work.
Professional licences and qualifications
Regulated engineering, architecture, medicine, education and other professions may need Thai recognition or licensing in addition to a work permit. The Department of Employment can assess whether education and experience match the role.
Typical candidate evidence includes passport, degree, transcripts, employment certificates, CV, photographs, health documentation where required and professional licences. Foreign-language records may need certified translation and legalisation.
Salary and contract review
Thailand does not use one universal professional work-permit salary floor. Immigration extension guidance, nationality, occupation, company route and tax evidence can create different practical thresholds. Applicants should obtain route-specific advice rather than relying on one number from a recruiter.
The contract should state legal employer, workplace, duties, monthly salary, allowances, bonus, probation, hours, leave, medical coverage, tax, housing, termination and repatriation. The salary paid, tax return and immigration evidence should be consistent.
Changing employer, role or location
The ordinary work permit authorizes approved work. A new employer or materially different occupation requires the proper new or amended authorization before duties begin. Labour Ministry guidance requires employers to report hiring, transfer and termination events within the prescribed period.
BOI experts need the new promoted-company and position approvals. LTR Highly Skilled Professionals must inform the LTR unit before resignation and obtain approval for a qualifying new employer if they wish to preserve that category.
Stay extension, address reports and re-entry
A work permit and immigration stay have separate expiry dates and procedures. The worker must maintain both. Long-stay foreign nationals can also have 90-day address-reporting duties, while landlords or householders have arrival-notification obligations.
Leaving Thailand without the correct re-entry permission can cancel an existing extension of stay. Before travel, check the current visa, extension, re-entry permit and work-permit validity rather than relying on the employer’s verbal assurance.
Family members
Eligible spouses and children of ordinary sponsored professionals can normally apply for dependent Non-Immigrant O status using the principal’s employment and relationship evidence. Dependants do not automatically receive work rights.
LTR programmes provide dependant facilities for qualifying family members, subject to their rules and fees. A family visa offer should identify each person’s exact category and health-insurance requirement.
Where sponsorship is realistic
Professional sponsorship is realistic in advanced manufacturing, automotive, electronics, automation, engineering, software, cybersecurity, data, finance, international trade, hospitality management, higher education, research, biotechnology, medical technology, logistics and regional corporate functions.
BOI companies recruit expertise connected to promoted projects. LTR targets higher-income or recognised expertise. Basic sales, clerical, driving, guiding, beauty and manual jobs can be prohibited, restricted or available only through specific MOU labour channels.
Applicants comparing the region can read TrendyAcads’ Malaysia Employment Pass guide and Singapore EP and S Pass guide. Do not assume the same employer ratio, salary or permit sequence applies.
How to verify a Thailand offer
| Check | Credible evidence | Warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Employer | Thai company registration, office, staff interview and tax presence | Messaging-only broker hides company |
| Occupation | Duties are legally open and match qualifications | Reserved work disguised with a new title |
| Pre-approval | WP3, Labour approval or qualifying BOI letter | Guaranteed Non-B with no employer records |
| Visa | Official Thai mission or e-Visa application | Tourist entry sold as work status |
| Work permit | Official e-WorkPermit or BOI/DOE process | Employer says Non-B alone is enough |
| Payment | Documented lawful fee to verified party | Crypto, gift card or unrelated personal account |
Common Thailand sponsorship scams
- A guaranteed work permit for an occupation prohibited to foreigners.
- A tourist visa marketed as permission to work immediately.
- A fake WP3, BOI approval or e-WorkPermit screenshot.
- A company claiming BOI privileges for a non-promoted project.
- An LTR remote-worker visa sold as permission to work for any Thai company.
- A salary stated on paper but partly refunded to the employer.
- An agent charging for a fictitious foreign-worker quota.
- A request for bank credentials, one-time passwords or remote-access software.
Use official Department of Employment, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and BOI services. Preserve the advert, contract, WP3 or approval, visa, permit and receipts.
A practical application strategy
Check the occupation first. Then verify the company and route. Ordinary professionals should ask who files WP3 and the e-WorkPermit. BOI applicants should confirm the promoted project and approved position. LTR applicants should test income, expertise, industry and insurance criteria against the official portal.
Do not begin work before authorization. Compare actual duties, location and salary with the permit. Maintain immigration stay, address reports and re-entry permission independently from the work permit.
Frequently asked questions
Can I work with only a Non-B visa?
No. Ministry of Foreign Affairs guidance states that work begins after the required work permit is granted.
What is WP3?
It is a pre-entry Labour approval used in many Non-B employment visa applications. It supports the visa but is not the final work permit.
Can any Thai company sponsor a foreigner?
No. The company, role, staffing, capital, tax and other route requirements must be met. BOI and LTR routes have additional conditions.
Does a Work-from-Thailand LTR allow local employment?
Not as its normal purpose. It covers remote work for a qualifying foreign employer and ordinarily provides no Thai work permit for Thai employment.
Can I change employers on the same permit?
Do not start with a new employer until the required new or amended authorization and immigration steps are approved.
Are all occupations open to foreigners?
No. Thailand prohibits or conditions many occupations. Check the actual duties against the current Ministry of Labour list.
Final assessment
Thailand sponsorship is a combined immigration and labour process. A credible case has a lawful occupation, eligible employer, valid pre-approval, correct Non-B entry and approved work permit. BOI and LTR benefits apply only when their specialised criteria are met.
